Stark Bridge, in northern New Hampshire, is one of the most photographed covered bridges in New England. Built in 1862, it is about 134 feet long, and spans the Upper Ammonoosuc River. In the 1950's there was talk of replacing the bridge with a steel one, but an outpouring of support by artists, historical organizations and many concerned citizens for keeping the covered bridge put a stop to that idea.
