Landing a small plane on a glacier is a thrill. Approaching the glacier through a seemingly narrow canyon - surrounded by montains - is not to be missed as a life experience. Once you are out on the glacier, you may be surprised at the warmth created by the radient heat of the sun at this altitude. You will also experience the SILENCE of this vast area, where there is only the sound of the wind. An interesting side note is that there are no schools for pilots to attend where you can learn to land or take off from a glacier. Most pilots learn by flying with experienced pilots, and gradually learning the techniques of take-offs and landing. In a way it is an oral tradition, not unlike the Inuit traditions, of passing along hunting and survival skills from generation to generation.
